NJ gallery

To kick off the summer season, Ocean Galleries in Stone Harbor, N.J. is delighted to welcome Jane Seymour to Stone Harbor as she showcases her collection of original watercolor and oil paintings, as well as limited edition artwork. “Jane Seymour: Paintings from the Heart” opens on Friday, May 23, 2008 and runs through Monday, May 26, 2008 with Ms. Seymour making personal appearances during gallery receptions throughout the weekend.
She is a multiple Emmy and Golden Globe winner, a recipient of the Officer of the British Empire (2000), bestowed upon her by Queen Elizabeth II, and most recently was seen by millions as a participant on the popular television show “Dancing with the Stars.” Jane Seymour has proven her artistic talents in virtually all media, the Broadway stage, motion pictures, and television, yet it is her love of art and color that has inspired her to follow her passion in painting.
In the 1990’s, Jane began dabbling in art as a form of personal expression and found it to be quite healing during a challenging time in her life. She has since emerged as an accomplished,
passionate painter whose works have been displayed at some of the nation’s finest galleries
and coveted as private commissions. Seymour sketches and paints at her Malibu studio, on movie sets and on her travels using delicate watercolors and colorful vibrant oils to create beautiful and expressive paintings. “Last summer, we were honored to have Jane and her gorgeous works of art at our gallery. The response to her colorful and vibrant paintings was incredible.
We are delighted that she will help us kick off the summer season again and look forward to seeing some of her newest art,” said gallery owner, Kim Miller.
As a child in England, Jane’s family regularly visited museums and encouraged creativity through self expression. Often described as a California colorist, Jane was impacted early on by Matisse’s stunning motifs and Chagall’s magical palette. She also found inspiration in the vibrant watercolors of Raoul Dufy who influenced many of her floral works.
Seymour has studied the watercolors of John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer. After commissioning noted Santa Barbara watercolorist Tom Mielko to paint a portrait of her children, she became motivated to begin painting with him. As a result of that experience, Seymour continues to paint with other artists and friends during her travels and in her studio.
Jane’s artwork ranges from colorful flower arrangements, detailed landscapes, and lush gardens, to intricate beach and landscapes, to wistful figurative paintings, all inspired by her travels and life experiences. Jane believes that “the best gift you can give to someone is a part of your soul,” as she does in her expressive artwork.
Seymour is also passionate about raising funds through donations of her artwork for numerous local and national charities which help children in need, raise awareness for women’s heart health and various other important issues dear to her heart. The “Jane Seymour: Paintings from the Heart” exhibition will feature original watercolor and oil paintings as well as limited edition artwork. The show opens to the public at Ocean Galleries (9618 Third Avenue, Stone Harbor, NJ) on Friday, May 23, 2008 and runs through Monday, May 26, 2008.
